If you are in Berlin and you have a few days extra then it’s a really good idea to make some day trips because there are interesting places situated near it. The first suggestion is Potsdam – it is only an hour away (assuming you are going to take train). You will have the chance to enjoy beautiful view of the lake and take a stroll alongside. No matter its small size Potsdam has a lot of things that are worth seeing.

Of course people have different opinions on the word “near” so it really depends how far you want to travel. But don’t worry you can easily find Billig Reisen (Travel Cheap) to all interesting places in Berlin.
Dresden is only 2 hours away from your Berlin apartment by IC train. The next city worth visiting is Magdeburg – an hour and a half, plus it has been rebuilt in the past 20 years so it’s quite a good opportunity to see the amazing mix of old and modern. The next nice place in my list is Lutherstadt Wittenberg – it will take you about one hour with train. Getting there is not as complicated as it sounds. Just take the S3 S-bahn train from Erkner, get off at Rahnsdorf and from there catch the tram – don’t forget that you will need zone C ticket. Other alternative means of transport – RE1, it will take you approximately 25 minutes to Potsdam but the construction works start on December so you’d better have this in mind. Actually Potsdam has one really big market in the center of the city – there are several small markets in Krongut Bornstedt which, by the way, is a former royal access yard so you should definitely pay attention to it.

The situation in Brandenburg and der Havel is quite different. There are three centers all of which are old. They look very much like the old town in Rome where you can stay in Rome apartments. Basically day tripping is not a bad idea at all, so if you want to see everything that is worth, make sure you visit Weihnachtsoratorium concert. It is performed in lots of churches in Germany so if you are interested it won’t be hard to find one. And of course don’t forget Dresden, it’s probably one of the best places that tourists can visit, it’s a bit far away but you will enjoy your day trip there, definitely.

Last but not least I want to share some information about the weather conditions. Of course it depends on the time of the year. Most of the places are worth taking a stroll but make sure that the weather is conductive. If you are in Berlin in December have in mind that the daylight hours are short and there is a real big possibility of rain. Check the weather forecast before going on a day trip because it will be unpleasant if you don’t have the opportunity to take a walk and do some sightseeing. I don’t know about the prices of tickets and stuff but I’m sure they are not going to be pretty expensive since many people go and visit the above mentioned places. Few years ago, as far as I remember, if you book an advance ticket to Dresden you had the chance to take it for 38 euros.
